Just like us, tropical fish are happiest and healthiest when they have variety in their diet. While I also feed frozen brine shrimp and freeze-dried mysis shrimp, Tetra shrimp wafers make up the bulk of what my bottom feeders eat.
I have two eight-year-old featherfin synodontis catfish that love this food. In the past, they have refused to eat certain brands of sinking pellets and wafers even when it was the only food I offered to them. The pellets sat there rotting while they increased dangerous ammonia levels.
Even when these pellets are not on sale on Amazon, they are still less than half the price by volume compared to our local box retailers and far cheaper than the pet store. My fish are approximately six inches long and have voracious appetites, yet one container still lasts a couple months.
Although I no longer have my clown loaches, they enjoyed this food as well. Their orange and black bands were vibrant—a sign that they are eating a healthy diet. These Tetra shrimp wafers feature a well-balanced nutrient profile to support your fishes’ physical health and appearance.
Improper feeding is the most common reason for water quality problems in freshwater aquariums. Only feed what your fish can eat within 10 minutes. As with any pellets or wafers, this food will turn to mush and start to decay fairly quickly if it’s not eaten. Overfeeding doesn’t just cause cloudy water— uneaten food also spikes ammonia and nitrie levels and causes oxygen and pH to drop. Both of these conditions can result in dead fish and cloudy, smelly water.
