I bought this thermometer mostly for checking grill and smoker temps and a few things around the house, and I’ve been really happy with it so far. I use it every time I make pizza in my Gozney Dome oven to check the temperature of the biscotto stone. 750° or higher and you are ready to launch your pizza.
It feels solid, easy to hold, and the screen is nice and bright. The two laser dots make it super clear where you’re aiming, which helps a lot compared to the cheaper single-laser models I researched when considering this purchase.
The temperature range of the Etekcity dual laser infrared thermometer is huge—it goes from way below freezing up to over 1,000°F—so it works for all kinds of surfaces that you might want to measure and compare. I’ve used it to check my oven, air vents, and to see which part of my car engine is heating up the most. I even diagnosed a dragging brake caliper on my truck my comparing the temperatures of the front rotors. It also has a little feature that can sense if a wire or outlet has electricity running through it, which is a nice bonus for safety checks.
If you’re measuring shiny metal or something reflective, it might not be 100% accurate unless you tweak the settings a bit.
Other than that, it’s been great. It runs on a 9V battery (included), and there’s an auto-off feature that helps save power.
Overall, this infrared thermometer by Etekcity is easy to use, seems accurate enough for anything you’re doing outside of a laboratory, and feels like it’ll last. Etekcity is an underrated brand for electronic tools, but more and more people are discovering their product line. For the price, you really can’t go wrong with this thermometer.
